Moving Out? General Cleaning Check List

Kitchen
Clean Stove completely (oven, burners, rings & knobs). Be sure to turn stove off at the circuit breaker. Also catch under burners (under pans in under-part of stove). Shine all chrome.

Defrost and wash the inside of the refrigerator with sudsy warm water, wipe all marks off outside and polish, remember let the ice melt, do not pry it off with anything. That could totally destroy the refrigerator and you would be responsible for that kind of damage. Move the fridge and clean under and behind it, remove all decals carefully without scratching the surface. If you turn the fridge off, leave the door ajar.

Wash the inside and outside of dishwasher, paying special attention to corners. Polish outside, leave door ajar.

Wash all of the woodwork, shelves and walls. Remove shelf liner. Once again get corners.

Furniture polish such as Pledge, shines and cleans outside cupboards nicely after they have been scrubbed.

Wash all windows inside and out. Clean all of the window tracks out completely. Clean off all curtain rods, and brush off screens. Remove all light fixtures and fan covers. Wash thoroughly. Shine chrome.

Replace all burnt out light bulbs. Don't forget oven and refrigerator lights.

Mop floors. A commercial wax remover is about the only thing that will do this. Do not wax floors. Removing wax from floors is time consuming.

Scrub all counter tops. Wipe out all drawers.

TAKE A WELL EARNED BREAK!

Bathrooms
Scrub tub, sink and toilet. Get all rings out. Scrub tile around tub.

If there is a mold problem present, there is a product "X-14" mold remover you can buy and use.
Scrub shower door and tracks (both sides). Lastly, shine up all chrome faucets, handles, tub & sink. Clean mirror.

Scrub out all drawers and cupboards-pay particular attention to corners.

Remove all light fixtures and fan covers. Scrub and replace. Shine Chrome.

Replace any burnt out light bulbs.

Scrub all counter tops.

Scrub floor-pay attention to corners. Do not wax floors.

Wash down walls.

TAKE A BREAK

Living Room & Bedrooms
Wash all windows inside and out. Brush off all screens. Wash window tracks, get it all, sometimes the rim around the window needs heavy scrubbing. Don't leave any grease. Wipe off (with sudsy water) heat registers. Now is a good time to double check to be sure registers were washed in kitchen & bathroom. Wipe off all doors with warm sudsy water, both sides. Once again, check the kitchen & bathroom.

If you have a fireplace, clean it out completely and wash brick if necessary.

Spot wash all walls. If you have closets, wash all shelves. Spot wash walls and scrub floor. Do not wax floor.

Remove light fixtures & clean. Replace all burnt out light bulbs.

In the case of a balcony, clean it off, remove all junk & sweep. Do not sweep debris over edge of balcony.

Vacuum all carpets and be sure to get all cobwebs out of unit. Sweep off front porch, be sure to remove cobwebs from doorframe and porch light.
HOORAY-YOU SHOULD BE DONE.

Double check your unit's condition before turning your keys in to Keystone Real Estate. The best rule of thumb is to leave the unit as you would like to move into it. Please leave a forwarding address so that we know where to send your deposit accounting.

TIPS - CLEANING MADE EASY

OVEN
*To clean racks, drip pans, and rings, take two large plastic garbage bags, put one inside
the other, put racks, rings, drip pans, etc. inside. Put 1 1/2- 2 cups ammonia into inner bag. Tie both bags, place in sunlight on porch for 3-4 hours. Open carefully (it will smell awful!!) Rinse and scrub lightly with scotch brite or S.O.S pad.

REFRIGERATOR
*Clean and refresh refrigerator by rinsing with a vinegar and water spray.

DISHWASHERS
*A few tablespoons of "TANG" in your dishwasher will leave it clean and shiny.

FLOORS
*Black marks from furniture or shoes can be easily removed from tile by scrubbing with scotch brite pad and cleanser.

WALLS
*Nicotine should be washed off walls regularly. Use a clean sponge mop and a TSP &
water mixture to clean walls. Rinse well.
*Clean crayon marks by gently rubbing with an old toothbrush and a paste of baking soda
and water.
*"Goof-Off" is a good product to clean marker or crayon off of walls. Rinse thoroughly
after cleaning.
*Scrub lightly with scotch brite pad to remove hand marks, crayon, furniture marks, etc.

BATHROOMS
*Clean mirrors and windows with a spray bottle of ammonia and water - or glass cleaner.
*Clean shower stalls with a spray bottle of bleach and water.
*Remove mildew off of walls and ceilings with a spray bottle of bleach and water.
*For older porcelain tubs, try Bar Keepers Friend and a scotch brite pad to scrub soap residue, crust, etc. Do not do this on fiberglass tubs!
*To clean mold from shower stalls, use a spray bottle of vinegar with 1 cup salt. Let set
1/2 to 1 hour and rinse.
*Clean fiberglass tubs with a paste of baking soda and water. They stay shiny if you wipe them
dry after each use.
*A little "Liquid Plummer" can be used to remove bathtub appliqués from porcelain. Be sure
and use rubber gloves when doing this.

TOILETS
*Soak 1/4 cup bleach in toilet bowl for ten minutes, scrub and rinse. -OR-
*Clean badly stained toilets by dropping one efferdent tablet into bowl. Wait until
dissolve and it easily scrubs clean.

SINKS
*To remove mineral or rust stains from sinks, place lemon slices on the area over night. Remove
in the morning and wipe clean.

WINDOW
*Wash windows with a spray of ammonia and water or with a mixture of 1 cup isopropyl alcohol
1 tablespoon ammonia and 2 cups water in spray bottle. Wipe with newspaper
*For sparkling finishes rub window with a clean blackboard eraser.
*To remove stickers from glass or mirrors, mist with vinegar before peeling. Or try to remove by
dousing a paper towel with alcohol and hold against sticker for 30-45 seconds. Should peel right off. Clean window blinds easily by putting a clean old sock on your hand.

GARAGES
*Clean driveways of oil or other spills by making a paste of laundry detergent and bleach. Scrub onto cement with brush or broom. Rinse well.
